“The human spirit is resilient and wants to thrive. And I believe we are all hard-wired for attachment, therefore our relationships with friends and family play a vital role in who we are… but we must first get to know ourselves.”
Welcome. I’m Denise Rowell.
I have always been drawn to hearing people’s stories and learning how individuals navigate life. I discovered there is no one size fits all…we are all unique, but many common themes emerge. The human spirit is resilient and wants to thrive. And I believe we are all hard-wired for attachment, therefore our relationships with friends and family play a vital role in who we are. BUT we must first get to know ourselves. Ever since experiencing growth, healing and self-exploration through therapy myself, I have wanted to help others feel the same freedom and ability to navigate life’s challenges. I value depth and spirituality.
Over the past 30+ years I have worn many hats and gained experience by working in a variety of roles, including hospital-based fitness trainer, corporate wellness program coordinator, Lamaze childbirth instructor, and youth mentor/volunteer in both public schools and church. In addition to my most challenging role of “mom”. More recently, I began specializing in the counseling field (2018) and have worked with a variety of populations in private practice settings, providing individual and couples counseling. I served as group counselor at a residential treatment facility for co-occurring disorders and substance abuse.
Currently I enjoy counseling women of all ages, primarily young mothers who are living in transition at a local shelter. I find fulfillment in watching these residents work through trauma (often fleeing abuse), overcome big obstacles to become employed, gain independence and find much deserved peace…sometimes for the first time in their life. My passion is working with individuals who are actively engaging in therapy.
I operate from a strength-based, client-centered perspective. I believe people are the experts of their own lives thus I enjoy a collaborative approach with clients. I draw upon a variety of evidence-based practices to suit each individual client- cognitive behavioral (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), eco-therapy, and often incorporate mindfulness, guided imagery, and breathwork therapy.
I’m the happiest outdoors and seek nature whenever possible- beach, river, mountains... walking, bike riding, swimming, hiking! I have a committed yoga practice and enjoy sunrises almost daily. I enjoy cooking for friends and family and feel abundantly blessed to have lived in this wonderful community my entire life.
